Every summer, I get a hankering to knit lace. Two years ago, I decided to make myself a lace stole for my wedding - which was only 6 weeks away. I thought I must be crazy, but I loved the knitting so much I finished it in only two weeks. (It was a small stole.) Last year, I made the Forest Path Stole from Interweave Knits. Later in the summer after that was finished, I also started a triangular shawl with some cashmere/silk yarn from School Products. But soon it was fall, and my love affair with lace waned with the change in season. I'm having the lace jones again, and I figured I'd better finish that piece before I started anything new. So I did! Here's a terrible photo:
I'll try to take some better ones later.
Here's what I'm going to make next. Woo hoo!
Holy smoly, Alison. I can't believe you're going to do that insane-looking shawl. You've done this sort of stuff before? G.R.A.C.I.O.U.S.
Good luck!

thanks Ann! I love knitting lace, and have done some challenging projects. It will probably take me all summer working diligently, or years if I get sick of it(which usually happens when I'm knitting something that starts small and gets exponentially bigger) - but I'm pretty sure I can do it.

Alison, I'm reading Bee Season now and ohmygosh it is just one of the best books ever. Not just the spelling bee stuff even though that is dead on. The family dynamics. I'm just devouring it. And Spellbound is one of my favorite movies ever, and probably my favorite documentary. I watch it all the time.
My kid I'm following here aced the written test, which is now given before any oral rounds to weed out the nonserious spellers for the benefit of the ESPN broadcast. Last year my girl missed five words on the written test and came in twelfth. This year, my kid missed six words on the test. Hold a good thought!!

I've seen a garden shawl. It's a work of art, and the Fiddlestick patterns are very well written. But,uh,You...do...know...that...the...outer...rows...have..something...like...800...stitches...don't you? Gulp. You brave woman.

Hey Alison. I was wondering how long it took you to knit the Forest Path stole. I was thinking about making it for my wedding in October, but I am getting cold feet. Could you give me any brilliant advice? Thanks!
